The Matinee Dress pattern tour: hi-lo hem peplum

Hello, hello! I am super excited to be participating in the Matinee Dress pattern tour today. If by chance you haven't heard of this pattern yet, stay tuned; you are sure to fall in love with just as I did. Oh, and, pssst! There's a giveaway too!!

The Matinee Dress and Peplum Top is a sweet new pattern from Jennuine Designs
I had the privilege of just the tiniest sneak peek behind the scenes as this pattern was being developed. It was so awesome to see bits and pieces as the pattern evolved. Jennifer has done a great job putting the pattern and tutorial together and it is an honor to be able to take part in the tour!
I can't wait for the new pattern from Jennuine Designs - the LOL Swing Top. Keep your eye out for this one ladies and gents; it is going to be awesome!

As the name may suggest, this pattern is fit for a movie star. So it is time to put on the superstar sunglasses. Let's start with a little theatrical performance, shall we?

Okay, now that we've got that out of our system let's talk seriously. I love the modern kid styles with plunging necklines, but when it comes to dressing my own kid I tend to be a bit modest. The Matinee pattern offers the modern style while still satisfying the mommy modesty.

As you have seen, the front of the pattern offers full coverage with a lovely faux bateau neckline. The back of the pattern has this super sweet deep plunge. And it is all cleverly held in place with the fun little strap that wraps around the bodice. And, best of all, it all still stays perfectly in place with an extremely active (crazy is more like it) child - observe below.

Hahaha! I love this girl!

This Matinee peplum, was made with a super soft and yummy gray chambray fabric. I could seriously just eat it up! It is the same fabric I used for my son's Mulberry Tunic (see it here). The drape is lovely and worked so nicely for the peplum skirt. The strap piece, as well as the Clover Shorts, were made a with bottomweight stretch blend fabric.

As for the pattern itself, I made just a few minor modifications. First, I added a little piece of coordinating piping to the front of the neckline.

Then I gave the peplum a hi-lo hem... making it a hi-lo hem peplum. LOL! Sorry, I just really wanted to say that. Every time I say hi-lo hem peplum in my head I imagine I am speaking some magical language from a storybook. It just has a funny ring to it, don't ya think?  :)

And that is it for modifications.
I couldn't be more happy with the way it turned out. It will definitely be getting lots of wear this summer!

I hope you have had as much fun reading this post as I have had sharing it! I really enjoyed making this pattern, but now it is time to wrap it up.

Aw, don't be sad; I have great news! You can pick up the Matinee Dress and Peplum Top pattern for 20% during the tour using the code "matineetour20". But that's not all, oh no, that is not all. There is also a super awesome giveaway! That's right. So call your friends now and tell them all about it. (I just had to work that last line in there since it goes so well the picture below. Haha, I know I am a dork.) (She said she was pretending to talk on her cell phone. I am SO in trouble with this one!)

Please visit the other stops on the tour and check out all the amazing Matinees being made!
